   Dr. Shafiq Asif was born on April 13, 1928 in Vehari district of Burewala tehsil. He received his early education from Burewala and Multan educational institutions. Completed DHMS four year course from National Council for Homeopathy Islamabad. He graduated from the National Council for Medicine, Islamabad with a degree in Medicine and Surgery. At the same time, he also wrote columns in Nawa-e-Waqt, Multan and Jang, Multan.

      

 

  Dr. Shafiq Asif joined Radio Pakistan Sargodha in 1982 as a duty officer announcer. Later he got job of lecturer in the University of Sargodha. Meanwhile, he did his M.A. in Urdu from the National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad. He obtained his M.Phil degree in " عبدالرشید کی نثری نظم نگاری ۔ تحقیقی و تنقیدی جائزہ" from the University of Sargodha and he received his PhD from the National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad, for his dissertation entitled "اردو غزل پر جدید نظم کے فکری واسلوبیاتی اثرات  ". Dr. Shafiq Asif has been working as H.O.D Urdu at the University of Sargodha Mianwali Campus since 2012.
  

     Dr. Shafiq Asif is a great  literary personality as he is a great man and a dear friend. He has tested his temperament in both poetry and prose and established his uniqueness in both. In Nazm, Ghazal, Urdu Mahia  and Punjabi Poetry, he have his own identity. He also needs no introduction in column writing, drama and radio broadcasting. Apart from this, he has also done significant and valuable work in the field of research and criticism. So far, several research papers have been written on him in many universities in Pakistan. Now, "Book Digest" has published "Shafiq Asif Number" which is not only an acknowledgment of Dr. Sahib's thought and art but also his diverse literary and intellectual aspects. Shafiq Asif number of Book Digest is also very important for the readers and researchers of literature.

میں گند اسرار سے نکلا ہی نہیں ہوں

 لایا کہ دربار سے نکلا ہی نہیں ہوں

رہتے ہیں ہمہ وقت مری آنکھ میں آنسو

 میں شام عزادار سے نکلا ہی نہیں ہوں

رکھتی ہیں مجھے اپنی حراست میں فصیلیںں

میں کوچہ و بازار سے نکلا ہی نہیں ہوں

رہتے ہیں کئی دیپ مرے دل میں فروزاں

 لیکن میں شب تار سے نکلا ہی نہیں ہوں

پہلے بھی ترا پیار رہا میرا حوالہ

 اب تک میں ترے پیار سے نکلا ہی نہیں ہوں

میں قطرہ خوں ، دل میں رہا تیرے مجرم کو 

میں چشم طلب گار سے نکلا ہی نہیں ہوں
