Prof. Dr. Rafiuddin Hashmi
Prominent educationist, Iqbalist, researcher, critic, intellectual, travel writer, teacher, dear professor Dr. Rafiuddin Hashmi, was born on April 1, 1942 (according to Dr. Haroon ur Rasheed tabassum but according to wikipedia 1940) in district Chakwal. Dr. Rafiuddin Hashmi's grandfather Jan Alam Shah named him "Shah Rafiuddin" after the renowned translator of the Quran Hazrat Shah Rafiuddin Dehlvi. At the age of four, he lost his mother's love.
Professor Dr. Rafiuddin Hashmi is fortunate that he memorized the Holy Quran.He received primary education from Modern Public School, Sargodha. This school was located on Khushab Road opposite Moola Bakhsh Hospital near Noori Darwaza. He Matriculated from Anbala Muslim High School Sargodha in 1954 with first class. In 1990, he not only passed the F.A. exam from Government College Sargodha with good marks but also got a scholarship.He passed the B.A. examination as a private candidate in second rank.He admitted to Government College Sargodha for M.A Urdu. A year later in 1965, she migrated to Nanital College Lahore. Hashmi Sahib was the only student to get first class in MA Urdu. In 1980, he obtained his PhD degree by writing the thesis " تصانیف اقبال کاتحقیقی و توضیحی مطالعہ". The supervisor of the thesis was Dr. Waheed Qureshi. His PhD thesis has been published three times and has status of milestone in Iqbal literature.
Rafiuddin Hashmi started taking interest in writing and compiling and teaching since his student days. Due to his extraordinary interest in Urdu literature, he got an opportunity to teach Urdu in Ghazali College, Jhang, even before the result of MA Urdu. Later he also taught in Municipal College Chishtian and FC College Lahore for a short period. In 1919, he was appointed as a lecturer in Ambala Muslim College, Sargodha. Anbala Muslim High School was a private institution established by Anjuman Islamia Ambala in 1964, which was taken under national control in 1972. After being selected as a lecturer by the Public Service Commission in 1970, Rafiuddin Haahmi was posted as a lecturer in Government College Murree and from there he was transferred to Government College Sargodha in 1921. In 1978, after being elected from the Punjab Public Service Commission, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in Government College, Sargodha. Apart from teaching, he actively participated in the literary activities of the college. His advice was included in the editing of college magazine "نوید صبح" .
In 1980, he said goodbye to Sargodha and taught Urdu in Government College Lahore.
In 1982, he came to Mental College Lahore and continued to perform the duties till March 31, 2002. Dr. Rafiuddin Hashmi enriched thousands of students with the wealth of knowledge and mysticism. In the educational institution he went to, he left an impression on the students of his personal greatness and academic ability. He made it easier for the students by writing books related to Urdu literature. His book on Urdu genres of poetry and prose is also a source of guidance. His academic results were not only encouraging but also worthy of emulation for other teachers. He died on 25 January 2024.
